Unique Abilities Award: I Am Emor Linda. I Am 24yrs Old. I Am A Ugandan From Inyer Village, Apire Parish, Aduku Subcounty, Kwania District. I Am A Volunteer Sign Language Interpreter, Disability Rights Advocte, Bachelor Of Science In Information Technology Student, And A Unique Abilities Award Nominee Under Girl Championship Award Uganda, 2024. I Have Been Through Ikwera Negri School For The Disabled For Primary Leaving Examinations, St.margaret College Makerere Where I Attained A Uganda Certificate Of Education Then I Later Went To Rubaga Girls School For Advanced Level Of Education. I Am Currently In My 3rd Year, Studying Bachelor Of Science In Information Technology At All Saints University Lango. I Have Been Nominated For Unique Abilities Award. I Drew My Inspiration From My Deaf Aunt Who Would Face Challenges Accessing A Sign Language Interpreter At Health Facilities Where She Would Go To Access Healthcare. As A Result, She Started To Teach Me Sign Language. I Started Translating For Her And Later, Went Out To The Community To Help People With Hearing Impairment. Deafness Is A Special Disability That Steals One's Freedom Of Expression Which Could Be Disastrous Especially Incase Of A Health Emergency. When I Was Volunteering With Nira Kwania, I Was Posted To Notify Birth And Death At Aduku Health Center 4. I Saw How Deaf Patients Were Struggling To Access Health Care Services, I Decided That I Would Do Something About It. 3. I Introduced Sign Language Course Unit At All Saints Which Enables The Social Workers And Students Graduating From My University To Be Able To Communicate With Deaf People. I Did That To Try To Address The Problem From The Source And Raise Awareness. Winning This Award Will Open For Me Doors Of Partnerships With The Government Where I Can Access Funding And Capacity Building To Train My Community Sign Language And Reach Out To The Health Facilities In My District To Train Them About The Importance Of Sign Language And Why Interpreters Could Be Life Saving In Our Community. Also, It Would Acknowledge Me And The Many Young Girls Out There Who Are Causing Change In Their Small Capacities. It Would Celebrate All Of Us Who Are Using Our Unique Abilities To Change Lives. 5. Whether I Win Or Not, I Will Still Continue Impacting Lives With My Unique Ability.
